Over the past twelve months, our working life has changed a lot. With many organisations having employers work from home, the need for the traditional office space has changed. Many of us are moving towards a hybrid style of working which requires less time in the office overall.

In some cases, this can mean downsizing when it comes to your office building. But whether you are scaling down or scaling up to a bigger space, you are probably anticipating a stressful transition!

There are some ways you can make this entire process easier.

Plan Ahead

This is an exciting time – you’ve found a brand new office to move into! But don’t get too swept away in the moment and forget about the planning stages. You need to inform your staff well in advance and make certain that they all know what they’re doing, and what your moving date will be. Whether or not your staff are currently office-based, it’s important to keep them as involved as possible so that they feel excited about their new space, too.

Appoint A Project Manager

Not sure how to “do it all”? Assigning a project manager to your move is a great idea – and could be an ideal way to give a thriving staff member a chance to really shine. This person will be able to help other members of staff feel comfortable with the move, as well as attending to such tasks as liaising with utility companies and movers. It can really help to have one central point of contact during this time, and a project manager can be that person.

Store Your Stuff

If you are moving into a smaller space, or just have some time when you will be “between offices”, then you may be wondering what you can do with your excess office equipment. Fortunately, you can get some great office storage space. This means you can move all the furniture and other things you need out of the way into a secure and easily accessible storage facility, which is perfect for when you simply aren’t sure where to put everything!

Label It

Even things that you are planning to move directly into your new space need to be considered carefully. You will have to be diligent in labelling boxes and trying to keep them as organised as possible. This will make unpacking them easier, and keep your employees happy as they won’t have to waste time finding their equipment, or getting their chairs and screens mixed up in your new office!

Good luck on your office move, and don’t forget to enjoy this time. Soon you will be in your new space and you can truly make it your own.
